Fabric sail for a calm, residential lighting effect on the ceiling
A fabric sail is ideal for visually softening technical or glare-prone ceiling lights and creating a more pleasant lighting effect in the room. Especially very flat luminaires often appear rather technical and do not suit a residential environment. In such cases, the fabric sail adds a calm, textile surface to the ceiling without the need to replace the existing lighting technology.
The ceiling sail fabric is installed above the light source and forms a subtle layer between the luminaire and the room. This visually moves the technical components into the background while the light is distributed more evenly. The result is a harmonious ceiling appearance with a warm, residential character.
Visually softening technical ceiling lights
Many modern lighting solutions such as LED light panels, LED light strips or recessed ceiling lights work reliably but often appear cool or highly technical. When a ceiling light is combined with a fabric sail, the technical elements are discreetly concealed. The ceiling looks calmer and more structured, creating a noticeably more pleasant overall impression in living spaces, offices or communal areas.
Reducing glare and evenly diffusing the light
Direct-emitting ceiling lights are often perceived as glare. A fabric ceiling sail diffuses the light and slightly reduces its intensity. The lighting becomes softer and more comfortable without compromising functionality. This creates a balanced lighting atmosphere that feels calm and comfortable. In addition, the textile material can help to break up sound reflections and slightly improve room acoustics, which is particularly pleasant in echo-prone rooms.
Also suitable for use near air-conditioning units and air outlets
In offices or workspaces, a fabric sail can also be used near air-conditioning units. It helps to gently redirect the airflow and support a more comfortable air distribution within the room. The fabric sail is mounted on the ceiling in the area of the air outlet and contributes to a calmer room climate without affecting the function of the air-conditioning system.
A flexible solution for different room situations
Whether used as a textile addition to a ceiling light in a living area, as a calm lighting solution in functional spaces or as a fabric surface for a ceiling sail, the fabric sail offers versatile possibilities to combine lighting and interior design. Existing ceiling lights can be visually enhanced in this way without structural changes.

Material and properties
The fabric sail is made of a durable textile and is not a thin photo or diffuser fabric. It is designed for permanent indoor use and specifically developed for ceiling applications.
- Material: 51% polyester (Trevira CS), 49% polyester
- Permanently flame-retardant textile material
- Fire classification: B1, flame retardant
Fire safety and areas of use
The fabric sail is permanently flame retardant. The flame-retardant properties are inherent in the fibre and remain intact even after washing. In public areas, such materials are mandatory and must comply with DIN 4102 B1 requirements.
Ceiling mounting and tension system
A suitable mounting set can be used to fix the fabric sail securely to the ceiling. This allows reliable installation and even tensioning of the fabric.
- Ceiling fixing: height 3.5 cm, colour silver, cylindrical shape
- Springs for tensioning the fabric sail
All fabric sails are supplied with round springs. If required, these can be individually adjusted. By gently bending the spring with pointed pliers, the tension can be fine-tuned for an optimal fit.
Colour options
The fabric sail is available in white or cream. Both colours are neutral and suitable for a wide range of interior and lighting concepts.
Important notice regarding compatibility
Please note: This product is not an original fabric sail from the manufacturer Blux and is not identical to the Veroca model fabric sail. Our fabric sails are not original accessories for the Blux Veroca system.
Cleaning and care instructions
The fabric sail is easy to care for; however, the following instructions should be observed to maintain its appearance and properties over time.
- The fabric can be machine washed at a maximum temperature of 30 °C
- Do not use ironing sprays or chemical additives.
- Iron the fabric while slightly damp, using moderate heat and sufficient steam.
- Avoid excessive heat, as the material may shrink.
The fabric retains its flame-retardant properties even after washing, ensuring long-lasting safety and functionality.
Planning checklist for your light sail
Key points to consider:
- ✔ Flat luminaire height: Ideal results with 3 cm to max. 7 cm (e.g. flat LED panels).
- ✔ Distance to the sail: We recommend 20 to 40 cm for perfect, even light distribution.
- ✔ Use diffusers for LEDs: Do not use "bare" LED strips; always use profiles with covers to avoid visible dots.
- ✔ Light intensity: Plan for approx. 20% loss of brightness due to the fabric's diffusion effect.
- ✔ Curvature & Size: Larger sails (e.g. 170x170 cm) create a more beautiful curve (approx. 30 cm depth).
- ✔ Pro-Tip air conditioning: Use the sail as a draft shield. For air conditioning units, mount it slightly looser to allow air to circulate properly without being sucked back into the unit.
